Summer time has well and truly arrived here in the Sea to Sky corridor with long periods of warm, dry weather for all to enjoy! Whistler has already experienced some fantastic events with the Half Marathon, Tough Mudder, Canada Day Parade and performances from the incredible Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to name a few.
Sadly, this warm and dry weather has meant that we are experiencing another year of extreme forest fires, resulting in a Province wide state of emergency. Please remember, fire bans have been put in place to protect the environment, it's wildlife and, of course, us! If you are going camping and feel the need to have a fire during the bans, purchase a propane fireplace and use that instead!

| As of July 14th, Whistler's inventory sits at 188 across all property types. If you are in the market for a chalet there are 49 to choose from, but with this being a firm seller's market there are only 13 units listed below $2.5 million compared to 36 listed higher than $2.5 million. For those of you who are interested in getting in to the Whistler market for the first time, perhaps a condominium is the way to go. With 46 active listings, 16 are unrestricted units and 30 are restricted. With only 3 unrestricted units sitting below $600,000 the condo market is firmly favoring sellers. This means that your best bet may be an investment property that allows for some personal use to enjoy whilst generating income for the remainder of the year. Of the 30 active restricted condominium listings, 29 of them are less than $600,000. Townhouse listings remain fairly low with a total inventory of 32. 17 unrestricted units have a split of 5 units below $900,000 whilst 7 units are asking for more than $1 million. Once again, restricted townhouses are more affordable if you are simply looking to enter the market. The total number of active listings for restricted townhouses sits at 15, with 7 listed at less than $900,000. |

Prevent Wildfires
- Heed prohibitions: check for bans and restrictions before striking the match
- Camp responsibly: In B.C., campfires can’t be larger than 0.5 metres by 0.5 metres. Keep a shovel or at least eight litres of water nearby to extinguish your fire, and don’t forget to create a firebreak. That means making a one-metre debris-free area around your fire by scraping down to the dirt. Before leaving, ensure your campfire is completely out and the ashes cool to touch.
- Phone it in: call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on your cell if you spot smoke, flames or an unattended campfire
Evacuation Stages
- Evacuation Order: You are at risk. Leave the area immediately. Local police or RCMP enforce evacuation orders. You are encouraged to register all family members at the reception centre so, emergency responders know that you are safe
- Evacuation Alert: Be ready to leave on short notice. If you leave before or during this alert, it’s called a voluntary evacuation
- Evacuation Rescinded: All is currently safe and you can return home. Stay tuned for other possible evacuation alerts or orders
Backcountry Closures
Wildfires can impact backcountry recreation, resulting in area closures or restrictions. Campers and provincial park visitors should check with BC Parks for fire restrictions and closures and recreation site and trail users can check with Recreation Sites and Trails BC.
FireSmart Your Property
More and more people are making their homes in woodland settings. While beautiful, these locations come with a greater wildfire risk. Ensure your home insurance is up-to-date and includes adequate coverage for fire damage. You can also help protect your property by planning ahead. Start by completing a risk assessment in BC’s FireSmart Manual.

Summer Solstice!
Sweet sweet Lasqueti. This year Ingrid and I took off for a week to Lasqueti island with some friends to enjoy the summer solstice and celebrate Ingrid's birthday. How's this for a sunset?

Key Things To Know About the Subaru IRONMAN® Canada & Subaru IRONMAN® 70.3 Canada
TRAFFIC FLOW
Expect increased traffic and cyclists from the start of the week, Monday 24th July, as participants begin to arrive and train for the event.
Sunday July 30thHighway 99 south of Alpine Way to Callaghan Valley Road will be closed from 7:00 AM to noon. All vehicles should pass Callaghan Valley Road before 8:00 AM. Expect delays. Highway 99 northbound between Alpine Way and Pemberton will be closed from 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM. Highway 99 southbound between Pemberton and Alpine Way will be closed from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The neighbourhoods of Emerald Estates, Rainbow and Alpine Meadows will be impacted throughout the day. PARKING
All guests and visitors are encouraged to park their vehicles at their home/hotel.
Day Lot 4 will be closed from July 27th at 8:00 AM to July 31st at 8:00 AM.
Parking at Rainbow Park will be closed Saturday, July 29th and Sunday, July 30th
SPECTATOR VIEWING
A spectator viewing guide will be available at whistler.com/ironman. It will also be available for pick up at the Visitor Info Centre, Village Hosts, and IRONMAN Canada Village Expo.
VIP Passes provides guests with the following access: On Sunday, July 30, 2017
- Exclusive Shuttle Service to and from Swim Start in Rainbow Park
- Shuttles to T1 at Rainbow Park leave from T2 at Lot 4 at the Corner Blackcomb Way West and Lorimer Rd (right beside the finish line and Expo) from 4:30 AM until 6:00 AM.
- Access to VIP Viewing Area at the Swim Start in Rainbow Park
- VIP food and beverage area at Swim Start and Finish Area
- Premium VIP Viewing at Finish Line RIDING THE BUS & VALLEY TRAIL
- Public transit will offer limited service from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM throughout Whistler and north of the Village until 5:30 PM.

The entire Valley Trail will be open! Get on your bike and cheer on athletes throughout the day.
